Anyone help on this one. I have had a mini server running for over a year problem free. Last night sometime the server came up with a warning that there was another machine on the network with the same name so it decided to change its name. It was dnssigns and now is reading dnssigns2. Problem is NO other machine on the network has a name anywhere close to that. This has caused havoc as far as apple tvs etc. All functions are running fine, nothing seems out of place, network traffic is normal etc. I still have all admin control. Any idea why a machine would allow, say a person trying to hack into the network with a same named machine and no passwords, to get in and then decide to change its name?

Well, I'll be using it for notetaking, the occasional graphic work and quite possibly some numbercrunching come next semester... We'll be doing statistics :eek:
Basically, you could say that what I need is an advanced typewriter, but then again, I imagine that once I get to know the machine, I'll be wanting it to do more stuff? Never had a portable before....

I was thinking the same thing and wanted a powerbook but in the end I didnt have enough cash so I went with a 12" ibook with some extra ram and it has impressed me. I can do graphics work with maya and bryce perfectly well and you will save some money so you can load it with ram and spend the rest of the cash on beer :D .
The ibook has quite a kick I dont think you need a powerbook unless you are going to use pro apps in depth but if you have the cash I wouldn't forget about the powerbook. The question you need to ask yourself is Will I be using the extra power and is the extra cash worth it?

I remember having a similar problem back in the late 80s - I had a Commodore 64, which plugged into a PAL TV and had the British keyboard layout. When I first got a PC, it came with an American keyboard (as all PCs sold here do) and I had to get used to it.
Fast forward 15 years, put me in front of a British keyboard and my typing slows dramatically. So you'll get used to it.

Ok ive been looking for months for a decent photo album app...what I have a question on is this,
when using a photo storage app it doesnt literally make a copy of this pic to store on your device for the purpose of that app correct? That would be stupid, doesnt it just make like a shortcut or a photo playlist of your existing photos to access?
I am lookign for a good photo album app that lets me use custom photos for the albums and when I picture with the camera and then import it into the app it will just be more like a shortcut of the pic on the camera roll...

I was messing around with my mixer and i think i screwed something up..
All my music is now clipping (itunes) on the duet and i don't remember it doing so.
Does your Duet clip?
In the mixer next to hardware its set to -none-
It's a strange but bugging me problem...
Also, my volume buttons on the keyboard are not bringing up any duet overlay. Just the regular mac volume overlay

Good point. And nobody's getting behind me. There's only ONE freaking item in stock. WTF would they just have ONE shipped to them, its pretty funny. Even the manager here is laughing about it. They're telling other's who even call to ask that they're sold out cuz I've already claimed the one here.

Hi, I want to put some CD's that I purchased on my iTunes to put on my iPod. The only problem is that I am getting a new laptop soon, my BlackBook is dyeing.)))): Well, so far I have bought all my music on iTunes, but it's so expensive. I bought many CD's like I said, and I'm putting them on iTunes. When I plug the iPod into a new computer, it would ask me if I wanted to transfer my purchases. And everything that I bought would transfer. The songs that I got from other websites wouldn't transfer. But If I import the CD's through iTunes, will it still transfer to the new computer? Or do they have to be bought from iTunes?

If you have an external hard drive just move the files from one computer to another, it's pretty easy if you do it that way. As the crazy person who invented this gadget I hope it's ok to post a comment. First of all I'm dog tired from having the ride of my life at MacWorld '08. I feel like I've finally found my extended family. Everybody was very, very cool, everybody had a great sense of humor and every person who tried it was amazed at the effect. As for the iLidz�, all I can say is I dared myself and then kept moving forward...Think different and then Just Do It! My two good brain cells fired at the same time and this is what came out! Two posts ago Spanky Deluxe hit the bulls eye as to what inspired me to make it. It's not for looking cool or walking down the street or for driving a car. It's for those times when you don't care who's around. One of the things that kept me going was the fact that I'm able to lay back in bed with my head in my pillow and watch a movie as if it was on a about a 65" display and not wake up my wife! I'd easily wear it on an airplane, there's nothing worse when the in-flight movie sucks. The other reason, both my wife and I have iPhones which was quite expensive and I'd never slap down the $250-$300 to buy a "cool" pmv, plus my kids would probably break it in a day. So, this alternative does the same thing for $29.95 and it's almost unbreakable! ;)

I purchased the 2011 13'' MBP about 6 weeks ago (my first Mac laptop btw:cool:) and I am planning to also get an iPad by September. I used my friend's and it is just... well, a really good experience. I plan to use the laptop for work & school and I'll use the iPad for general web browsing, books/news/magazines, entertainment (iTunes, Netflix, games), etc.. I figure it should extend the life of my MBP as well because I expect to use it less once I get an iPad.

Apple already has a split-system.
They sell this year's phone for one price and last year's phone for a much cheaper price.
I don't see any reason why they'd give that up and start selling 2 brand-new models at different prices. I don't understand what that gains them over the current system. Any blog that says there will be a 'pro model' but doesn't explain how that's better than the current system doesn't count much in my opinion.

Do you have SHSH blobs saved for 4.2.1. If you do then upgrade to 4.3.1 and save your SHSH blobs and then downgrade back to 4.2.1 using your 4.2.1 blobs.
This makes absolutely no sense. Even from 4.2.1 you can save your 4.3.1 blobs.

On the front page, I had a spinning beachball for a few minutes and could not exit. Doing the software update which included Safari and Java seemed to solve this problem, but I'm not sure if that was the cause.
Thanks for the input, but that's not the issue here. My computer was running perfectly, no beachballs, and I was still able to perfectly contact and load every other site at that time, and DownForEveryone said that the site was down for them too.
