I personally could care less about this upgrade. I have have been more than satisfied with my ultimate 13" w/4g and 256 SSD. Handles all of my needs I.E. work/VMware/ all the other bells and whistles; and even have been doing my Xcode projects on it.
Seriously, I see no need or reason to want a faster more reliable machine for it's purpose; other than saying it's got an older chip inside. Maybe next year when many thunderbolt devices are in the wild, but again no biggie for me.
I may be in the minority, but for once I am very satisfied with this revision over my old Rev B.
To each his own I suppose.:)

Not to mention, operating a phone while driving is becoming illegal in most states due to distracted driving. I figure there would be a bunch of drunk people using this app while driving drunk? Geez.
I got an idea...what about an app that tells ME where the drunk drivers are so I can stay away from THEM?

My only point in this whole discussion is Apple is not all sweet and innocent like so many like to think
Where did anyone say that?
And as an aside, The Beatles Let It Be album had a red apple logo in the center instead of the usual green.
I thought that cover had photos of the Beatles on it?
And red or green, their logo still looks nothing like the Apple Computer logo.

Iand who has been feverishly building bandwidth and capability to deliver full length full resolution movies...Google has.
Google is buying up Dark Fiber. That means no end points into homes like Verizons FIOS has. The bottleneck for full length high resolution movies will be from decentralized distribution centers to the homes. Dark Fiber is helping, but not by much.

Man, stop it with the cloud service already. You can't rely on the internet availability for listening to music. It's unreliable. Plus, the streaming will probably be low resolution, drain battery life, eat into data caps, not display lyrics, and generally be a crappy experience. If I wanted to stream, I can do it from my home computer where my music already resides with one of the 100 apps already available and not have to fight through all the bandwidth issues that are probably gonna result from Apple's side. What's the point? I can do this now.
Of course what we really need if more friggin' flash memory on our devices! Apple's been stuck on 32 GB on the iPhone for almost 3 years!
Tony
Good points made. Like I complained about, cellular data connectivity when out and about isn't very reliable and then there is data caps.

While I think this is silly I fully understand why Apple has to put down their foot and show what they think is ok and not ok to protect their brand. The phone IS very similar to the iPhone 3G and since it's almost impossible to sue someone for software design (so not google then) they sue the hardware company: Samsung.

I have no idea how this would be useful. Buffer times, connection loss, no WiFi around, these are all problems that will prevent this from working.

you can feel free to go ahead and explain yourself in your next post instead of just mindlessly making statements with nothing to back them up. thanks.
I already did that (explain myself) and you said I was ignorant for doing so - didn't leave me many options, really. :)

And no, I havn't read all 6 pages of the posts, so sorry if it's been discussed.

Don't 90% or more of the MP3 players on the market also infringe this patent (including the forthcoming Zune). By making this payout Apple have given Creative the means to fight other companies (such as Microsoft, Sandisk, etc) which could tie them up for years and possibly even delay the launch of Zune. Meanwhile, Apple have their nice license agreement and can continue unabated...

Err, buy an external HD or upgrade your iBook HD!
I have a 1Ghz iBook with a 80GB HD (upgraded it myself) and 2 160GB firewire HD's so what was your point?
My point is...
1) The Movies take up huge amounts of storage space.
2) I hate having to always plug external drives into my iBook.
3) We need redundancy for storing these movies we buy. An "external HD" just won't cut it.
4) If I want to take my iBook on the road with me, then how are the other people in my house going to access the Movies and other media via iTV if it's stored on my iBook or some "external HD" which requires a host computer to be of any use.

the tide is turning against Apple here, they need to clean up their act and get this whole thing working better.
i understand the walled-garden approach and respect that, but they also need to get the store cleaned up/organized and they need to work better with developers - which might just mean hiring more people to work with them on a daily basis.
No, they need to ditch the walled garden approach. It has never worked, and will never work, from AOL to eWorld, it'll lead to indifference and hostility from developers, and eventually, users. Throwing more people at it would not solve what is a systemic problem.

2) I hear there is going to be TONS of problems seeing as how it's going to be the first of Rev B. Models. Any truth to that?
With the exception of firmware updates, Merom is a drop-in replacement for Yonah, so, architecturally, there should be few changes. There will likely be a few case changes to incoporate the magnetic latch and easy drive swapping. With such minor changes, these laptops are no more likely to have problems than other laptop. According to Consumer Reports (http://www.consumerreports.org:80/cro/index.htm), the industry rate of repairs on laptops is 16-19%, with Apple coming in at 17% (considerably worse than its repair rate for desktops). So, there is about a 1 in 6 chance that your MBP will need repairs at some time.
That would be great but honestly, after all the updates this week, i don't think its gonna happen.
So a few more months before Apple makes *my* MBP 15". Sadly.
Well, Steve had to hold SOMETHING back to announce on the 12th. I don't think he wants a repeat of the iPod HiFi/leather case announcement, where people were saying, "Is that all?". I figure it has to either be updated laptops or AidenShaw's minitower. Well, in a few more days, we'll all know.

Now that it's part of the platform Apple has no excuse for not including it. However, it wouldn't surprise me to see a MBP with this platform that still only has 2.0 connectors.
And no BluRay. ;)

For the Thunderbolt external drive discussion. What's the point of a fast connection on a rotational HDD and especially if the connection from the primary source (internal HDD) is slower than the external interface?

So answer my 2nd question.
Why not just have call is the Mobile App Store? or WindApp store?
Why does MS need to copy Apple and just call it App Store?
Hey, wait, I'm on the side Apple should keep the TM...
But, to directly answer your questions, I think Apple answered it awhile ago;http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2385/1895583251_f102d4324d.jpg

What's wrong with storing music on hard drives locally?
Not to mention blowing through your entire battery running the radios to stream what you could just as easily sync.
If you really want to stream your own collection over the WAN, there are already NAS appliances and streaming applications on the market that can deliver the goods. And if Apple prices this like their completely underwhelming Mobile Me offering, those alternatives could end up being a lot cheaper.

Yeah it already lets you watch while downloading and frankly I think that this is a very important feature that is not often discussed. People bash it saying that it takes 1.5 hours to download a movie. Well if the movie is 1.5 hours long than wait 5 minutes and start watching. It is close to instant. I know that on my computer it only took 70 minutes to download which means I can start watching it right away. With Verizon rolling out their Fios internet with speeds of up to 30mbs even 1080p will soon be no problem. I am not sure just how big a 1080p movie is but I am hoping that within a year it will be do able for more people.
Don't forget that Apple servers will be the weakest link here. Amazon servers were overcrowded the first days, leading to downloads of 8+ hours (and you can only rent them for 24 hours (or buy them, of course))
They will have to build/purchase a data center or two

Having been bitten numerous times by McAfee, I never believe their press releases.
Way back, I subscribed to their virus and firewall software. I tested the firewall, and it worked. Until they updated it to a slicker looking interface. Some sixth sense made me test it again, and bingo, my computer was exposed. McAfee customer "support" was not interested. They had my annual subscription, and that was all they wanted.
After ripping all McAfee code out of my PC, I was dismayed to find that my employer signed up for McAfee products.
Months and months of slow PC, followed by bricking thousands of employee PCs with their encryption-at-rest software.
I, too, once used their product when it was a little puppy. It was fast and frisky and did its job. Then it started growing and became a suite of solutions. And it got fat and slow and turned into a beast. I finally slayed the beast -- and others too who had let these puppies-grown-beasties into their homes -- and eventually went Mac. No animals in my home now.
