I see that name, and I think of Dune, not HHGG. Ix is the planet where all the cool machines & gadgets are made.
Hah, very apt reference, if that's indeed what the ix refers to.

Son of a gun. I just bought a Apple (read:expensive) wireless mouse last week. I wonder if I still have the box...

If this patent is anything close to reality, Apple may be prepping something much bigger than an iPod, something closer to a full-featured OS X tablet computer. You'll be running a full-featured version of iTunes, not just the simplified UI of the iPod:
http://images.appleinsider.com/patent-ipod-touch17.gif
but who would want to have a full featured iTunes when you still haven't solved the problem of typing. The most efficient part for me is to type out what you're looking for. I do, however, see the advantage to making playlists more efficiently on the go, giving you the ability to shuffle anything you choose, not just "All Songs" which is a bother. :)

I just got back from a weekend trip in Chicago. I saw a guy talking on his white iPhone. For the life of me I can't exactly remember where I was though - shopping on Michigan Ave or maybe at Midway.
All I can remember is saying to myself, "Holy ****, that guy has a white one."

After the Month of Kernel Bugs, are you concerned about Mac OS X security?
No - 62%
See, that bugs me. Everyone should be concerned about security. I believe OS X's overriding security feature is obscurity, and once that situation changes I can see the OS falling over very quickly.
One of the weakest links in the chain is the user, and if the user is not concerned then you have a problem.
Dont get me wrong, I think OS X is great, but it just hasn't been "weathered" in the wild like Windows has. If OS X becomes a viable target then we're in for a bumpy ride.
OSX is based on FreeBSD, which has been around for an eternity and includes modules from even older Unixy stuff. There's paying attention, there's worrying, and then there's running around with your hair on fire digging for a bomb shelter with your bare hands. We're at the pay attention stage.
MOKB showed that the kernel can be a source of bugs and that OS design should incorporate this problem into the design. This doesn't mean panic or worry or take a pair of scissors to your broad-band connection, this means Apple has some things to fix. It also showed that wireless is inherently insecure and the problems with drivers can affect Windows, Mac OSX and Linux.
Again, MOKB isn't all that important, it's Apple's response to problems that really matters.

What does it take to be an analyst now? Just some 20-sided dice and a few key/buzz word decisions to make?
These guys throw out hundreds of the wild-ass predictions each year and just through sheer probability, someone is right. But they always pat each other on the back in each other's blogs with stuff like "Wow, White really nailed that one didn't he".
I was just thinking the same thing... how do I become an Analyst so I can 'come back from a Chinese trade-show' and make wild-ass predictions? (This particular analyst has 11 whole years of experience!)

This goes to show that Microsoft is not done taking business from others.
Even if this does generate some sort of competition for Apple and the iPod, Microsoft will be miles behind Apple as usual.
I hope this does not become a repeat of what happened back in the 80's. That is, first Apple comes out with great products and all is well for some time. Then Microsoft comes out with a poor copy of that product then takes 95% of the market.

I've currently got a single 1GB stick in a three year old PB - will that be OK to swap into a new MBP?
Iain
NO, even if it was the last powerbook G4 with DDR2 ram it still isn't compatible, different speed and spd DDR2 dont seem to mix very well. Best to buy a new stick from a reputable store (and remember Apple overcharges for RAM)

On another note - wouldn't you hate to be an Apple content developer? You're working hard, just finishing up on a new piece of code... hoping there aren't any errors.

[mDeviceList addObject @"ix.Mac.MarketingName"];

You put it live, relax, sit back, check out some RSS feeds for a break. The first item:
"What is ix.Mac.MarketingName and what does it mean for Apple's future plans?" Aiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeee!

I want to own the strip club.
And didn't you see how upset and disoriented I was by your death? I lost all track of time.
The would be the best narrative EVER.
MRVille is brothel, and 2 girls have stds.
The seer is a health department screener.
The hunter is a condom distributor.
It might have to go to the PRSI, though.

Also, Apple is Evil and you are living in Steve Job's RTF.
and... and... 4G.
and... widgets.
Well, the fake 4G carriers are using is faster than the 3G Apple supports, so that's an ok argument.
Apple is pretty evil, but all multibillion dollar corporations are. You don't get rich by being nice. Steve jobs also seems like a jerk in all of those little e-mails he sends out to various people.
Widgets are cool, the iPhone needs an option for them!
You forgot the "Android is open and iOS is closed!!" fanboy argument :(, that's the only one that doesn't really make much sense.

So the iPhone went from being pummeled by Android to now just being badly beaten.

TB at this stage will only be useful to a few people.
IT's really down the road when SSDs get bigger and cheaper and when TB is put into a MBA (without any other ports) that it will matter much more.
Right now? It's ahead of its time especially if there is a tb tax involved.

That kind of sounds like something Bill Gates would say (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pP0_uN42P44). :p
(Didn't see the video as of yet)
Absolutely no.
I hate the way windows looks in its default configuration. It is too shiny; too glossy and I just cannot get it to work. I have to go to windows 98 style to get back to normal functioning.
As for my comment, I simply mean that Apple needs to move beyond the grey effect and introduce another colour set or sets of UI elements. I like this. :)
Major Dislike As Of Now
I hate the way they are transitioning to non-Lucida Grande type fonts. See 'Day', 'Week', 'Month' text fonts. I absolutely don't like this.
