Nice pieces of kit. Would this put the top of the line iMacs in the realm of professional photographers who have to do a lot of post processing? Or is the monitor not up to scratch for that? I can see huge external RAID arrays equipped with Thunderbolt to cater for the safe storage of large amounts of RAW files :D

I found this interesting comment on the making waves site - is it true. If it is then the commies at greenpeace need to stop bitching.
Greenpeace appears to have its facts in a muddle. I've studied the environmental performance of the leading companies and here is what I've found.
1. Apple is rated best in class in environmental performance for both portables and desktops by the US Environmental Protection Agency's EPEAT tool (www.EPEAT.net). This tool is based on a 2006 IEEE standard for product environmental performance.
2. In August, Greenpeace conducted extensive tests on leading laptop brands to establish whether or not they were compliant with a European substance ban directive. Apple's laptops were subjected to more than one hundred tests and they were unequivocally found to be RoHS compliant. Note that Greenpeace has subsequently buried this report.
3. Greenpeace found 200 parts per million of TBBA (a harmless brominated flame retardant currently used by all manufacturers) in an Apple fan assembly. TBBA is not banned, and even if it were you would need to quadruple the quantity that was detected in the Apple fan assembly before it reached the European definition of concentration that are permitted for 'banned' substances.
4. HP's laptop failed the compliance test, and Greenpeace ranked HP as the top performer in their August score-card ranking.
5. Despite being ranked at the bottom of Greenpeaces scorecard, Apple is the only manufacturer to have commited to phasing out PVC and TBBA without qualifiers (i.e if economically viable)
6. Apple is the only manufacturer to have eliminated DecaBrome from all plastic parts.
From my research, I can only conclude that Greenpeace is targeting Apple because of the 60 million iPod customers out there. Pity, I used to have a lot of respect for Greenpeace.

x-box wasn't a money loser for that long. on the financial statements i think they had bing/live whatever in the same category making it seem as though they were losing money. recently they took it out.
I would call more than half its life, counting today, to be "long".

The division sold its first unit in being started (and costing money) well before that, no doubt. It didn't hit "black" until 2008. In big business, that's basically a miracle story of survival. If Microsoft wasn't making money elsewhere, you can bet it would not have even made the 360.

The way I see it is why buy a product when it is being improved (no matter how little or much) and should be the same price or lower... most likely within the next few weeks?

FWIW $50M/year is ~0.2% of Disney's revenue (they made ~$30B/year for the past few years). Definitely not chicken feed, but not earth shattering either.BConsidering that they sold "010101010's", I think an extra $50M is extraordinary. Apple ripped 75 DVDs, made a few web pages and boom... $1M in 7 days! I don't know what you're talking about... you're thinking small... $50M/YR is JUST THE BEGINNING.

Law abiding people have nothing to fear. I guess that makes Anne Frank, the subjects of McCarthy, etc. etc. criminals. It's a good thing they didn't have iPhones.

...All this "well they had it coming" BS is totally misplaced, the man who died was a human being. I only hope that the guard did not instigate the shooting.

strange, I'm currently in Las Vegas according to this app, I've never been to LV in my life. It does however accurately give a tracking of my phone at home in the UK and my trip to East Coast of USA last year.
Actually this could be just as bad. Imagine a issue comes up and you need to prove that you were (or were not) somewhere and your phone conflicts with the facts. The government now has data that you need to clarify or explain.

What about the Mac Pro? It's way past due, would that come first, before the iMac?
Probably not until August at the earliest.

Wow. Are all these features actually on an Intel chip? It's not obvious or anything

I would be exstatic to get a 720p movie, and like you, I would certainly have no problem waiting the time it would take to download it. I just want HD downloadable content from iTMS, which is why the iTV has me so excited. I may hold off on getting that HD-DVD player until I learn more about it.
And the download, would be platform independent with regards to BluRay or HD-DVD. Cool.

Agreed. There won't be anything of import in Paris itself. But Apple may release updates in conjunction with the Expo from their Cupertino campus.
That should make the Expo organizers _really_ happy!
Maybe I'm just getting caught up in the feverish excitement surrounding the impending release of Merom-based Apple notebooks, but I am going to predict that Apple will debut new iPods at Paris (which is why they banned all non-iPod mp3 players at the Apple Expo).
To give this announcement maximum effect they must announce MacBook Pros with Merom outside of the Apple Expo. Since other PC manufacturers have now announced Merom-based notebooks, Apple will likely present the MacBook Pros before the Expo, so either tomorrow or next week Tueday. I stand by my earlier predictions that MacBooks (and Mac Minis) will not get Meroms yet.

After what we got at WWDC, I'm not getting my hopes up yet. My oldest Mac is just 8 months old so new processors won't mean much to me. My iPod Nano isn't full yet so not really interested in those. Could get excited about an iPhone, but only if it were in the Treo / Blackberry category as that would really help me in my work.
