There could be other reasons its only working after a restart... That's why I was looking for another answer besides one reply...
So unless you have no input be on your way..
What if I needed my computer and couldn't have it gone for a week for some ****** superdrive...
It's pretty pathetic I pay 1000+ for this Macbook, and a month later the cheap ass cd drive fails.
it's pretty pathetic that you aren't taking the advice that you obviously don't wanna hear but NEED to hear. if there was another reason for it, someone would have helped you BY NOW. but you know what, nobody has. so how about you be on your way, to the damn store.

Why wait in line...The Best buy in Citrus Park and the CompUSA in Brandon . . .
The release is the buzz, the standing in line anticipating it is the stoke. Best Buy's okay for CDs, and CompUSA is fine for ink cartridges, but when's the last time you heard people say "Let's meet at Best Buy to get a new HDMI cable?"
Besides, it'll be on Friday. The Mac fanboys can then go to Blue Martini and look smugly upon the beautiful people lined up to throw money at indifferent bartenders serving overpriced drinks, all the while holding up their copies of Leopard while yelling "I've got mine, I've got mine!"

Yeah, that really sucks. If it was me, and I couldn't afford the clean up or a lawyer to sue, I would just walk away from the house and let the bank foreclose.

Hi. This is my first post here. I've been through most of the forum entries and googled around but didn't seem to find an answer to my specific question. So here goes:
I've had my MBpro 13" since the summer of 2009. I know my way around a PC but Mac is a new experience to me but I wanted to try it out to see what all the fuzz was about.
Sometime last summer my Mac started to freeze when I opened it up after sleep mode or brought it out of stand by mode (I hardly ever turn it off but the problem is the same after a fresh startup). It did not matter what application I was using, Mail, Safari, Firefox, Chrome, iTunes, Finder - whatever application the result would be the same. The beach ball would just keep spinning and spinning and everything would be locked down for about a minute or two. In the beginning of such a period I could navigate to another window or the desktop and click something but after about 10 seconds I couldn't do that either. After a minute or two everything would be back to normal.
Originally I thought it was Mail that was causing the problem because I resolved it by deleting the plist. But after getting all of my mails back into the inbox and getting 2-3 feeds from various sites the problem was back. Deleting the plist and not getting the feeds helped for a while - 3-4 months or so and then the beach ball-problem came back. This time I stopped using Mail for a while to see if this was the problem. It wasn't and in the end I reinstalled the OS.
Some months later everything started all over - only this time it was worse. Grey screen prevented me from doing anything and after a hard reset I couldn't even access the desktop. I tried everything - pressing D or T during startup, pressing Option-command-p-r, but nothing helped.
Another reinstall solved the problem for a while. And after that I've been running a repair disk permissions regularly. Somehow it always found something to repair - this struck me as odd but I thought, as long as it's not freezing I'm good. Well - now it's freezing again and it started after I installed 10.6.7. I've unticked the harddisk sleep-thingy and removed Firefox but the beach ball apparently doesn't care if I use Apple-software or not. Last freeze was in Safari. The time before that was in iTunes.
ANY help would be much appreciated. Could my hdd be corrupt? Why didn't I have a problem the first year then?

Really been into computers my whole life. Since I am only 27, I am just getting up to speed. I have had varying exposure to all makes of computers. The Mac Community operates on a near, excuse me, holy hatred of Micro$oft.
I purchased my first Mac a few years ago, a portable, codenamed WallStreet. Why I bought was simple. I LOVE computers!! Now I am a repeat buyer! I now have an "Ivory " TIBook!
As a final note, iChat is great! And Windoze users see silvery OS Brillance!
Makes them jealous!
As a footnote, I am Certified A+ in microcomputer repair. There is a SERIOUS lack of knowledge that the Mac came first!

Yes a keyboard will be useful but the most important thing in a studio is sound. If you can't hear what you're doing it's so frustrating. If you're just starting out you may think that having ok sound will do the trick but it won't be long before you're not sure if you're hearing your mix or your speakers when you're mixing on bad speakers. I'd much rather make house music with good sound than a keyboard.
For good speakers, you're looking for near field monitors, they differ from standard speakers in that they try to reproduce accurately the sound you feed them, standard speakers try to "sound good". There's a pretty big difference between the two, sounding good usually means a compressed sound with not a lot of middle frequencies. For house, you'll probably want a sub.
Either way, a keyboard is nice to have, if you don't have any previous experience with keyboards, you might as well just get the 25 key (get it velocity sensitive especially useful for drums). M-audio have a pretty good value.
yeah but this is why i suggested he gets a set of klipsch promedia 2.1 speakers, which are thx certified and fairly accurate (good for checking mixes).
but for his main mixing he can use sennhesier hd280 pro headphones.
plus bottom end in house is a major concern, and he is not going to be able to afford a good enough set of monitors thats going to hit the lows he wants. cheap monitors do not get very loud nor have much bottom end to them which is why i got the klipsch and sennhesier headphones until i can afford a good set of monitors.
edit: plus hes obviously not insanely serious about production just yet which just further justifies my suggestion.

It's way different from an Incase Snap.
The Seethru satin definitely gives more protection, I have the satin snap and the seethru satin. I really love the protection that the Seethru offers. It has a lay on the table design, and it's like a low end version of the candy shelll.
It's not all that bulky. :)

Ok, I currently have a Ti 15" powerbook, but WILL SOON be buying a new 12" powerbook (as SOON as they update the line). I was going to purchase I thought a new 17" Apple LCD Display, but found out that the companies that were quoting the price had none in stock.
So... I have two options. One being purchasing an apple studio display on ebay, or just go out and purchase a new 19" LCD display.
My question for discussion would be: 1) would you consider buying a used LCD monitor off of ebay? 2) What new 19" LCD would you recommend in the $450 price range?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts! :)
Search the forum you find heaps and heaps of recommendations for the Dell 20" wide screen, can't remember the name but some one will post it.

Unfortunately it isn't since they aren't using the same chipset.
You could, however, upgrade the 8-core base model to a 12-core or upgrade the quad core base model to a single 6-core.

Thanks for the response,
In all honestly that's something I'm not 100 percent sure on. The guy that had the phone before me knows nothing other than how to use it and as its always been in dfu I havemt been able to check. However as I have jailbroke with redsn0w on cust firmwar 4.2 I would assume its been updated to the ipad baseband? Although as it reverts back to dfu I can't even be sure the jailbreak has been succesful....
Rather puzzled by it to say the least. I've done some reading on using iRecovery so going to try that later on and see how it goes- I'm ocd when it comes to fixing stuff like this so really don't want to call it quits!!
Do you think the baseband would have an effect on it failing restores?

Also, up until a few years ago the portables were limited to 4GB of RAM, so weren't as future proof. But my 3 year old Mac Pro doesn't have that limit, and I'm running 14GB on it. If iMacs or MBPs of the time could have supported more RAM, I would have gone that route instead.

You would have to import the CDs again on the other computer, or you could use software to extract the music from the iPod. If you have the CDs, I'd just import them on the other computer when you get it.

Is there a benefit to having fonts activated and deactivated on the fly?
yeah, so you don't have to put the fonts you want to use in user/library/fonts by hand, like citizenzen and you recommended.
but i agree, what citizenzen added, that there's more important stuff to take care of than solely choosing the typeface. but for organisazion, overview and samples the fontexplorer comes in handy.
at least it does for my work.
