Unless I'm mistaken, VHS is 250x480 in resolution. Maybe somebody has it on a Laserdisc or something somewhere? Its just old enough that I don't see that many high quality versions existing in a digital format.

This whole situation leaves me so puzzled with all the twitter accounts saying no one is working on the iPad 2 JB. There was a video posted by comex when it first came out with it completely jailbroken and Cydia installed http://tinyurl.com/6hac8j4. I haven't heard any news about this since the video was released. I mean if it was patched in 4.3.1 why not release it anyways, having a 4.3 JB is better than not having one at all. If it contains Apple code why not get some assistance from the JB community? I know the Dev Team is an extremely intelligent bunch of individuals, but it usually helps and speeds things up when you get more eyes on a certain problem.
I always looked to the JB scene as a community. Why not let the community help out to get this out to the public?

it would surely cost a lot.
this is always the case, when new products appear in the market.
i'd say 2000 $$$.
i am hoping though, that other companies would use this technology too, and not be dependent on Philips to use this technology.
i was never satisfied with philips equipment. maybe it is just me.
and if we need to resort to philips equipment, then i would want to have a choice of machines. philips needs to present 2 to 4 hifis within a month and not just one.
if we will see them in mwsf? good question. i predict, no. it is just too early.
and again, we are talking about apple here. we know how steve loves surprises, although he hasn't surprised us that often in the last few macworlds.

I too hear some subtle and intermitent clicking and whirring noises when the room is very quiet at night and I'm just browsing MacRumors :)
I guess it's normal. This is a new PB too, so the hard drive is new as well.

That sucks. Which college/university?
University of Kansas.
I sent a couple emails out hoping to get more information as to why the Macs were removed and were they've gone to. They might be in another public lab now. They'll probably say the machines weren't getting much use and the PC's were more "in-demand" which is true. But that's all FUD on student's part. When the lab would get busy people would be standing around waiting for PC's to become available while Macs sat unused. I know some of them were there to use the internet of type on their papers in Word. But most don't know the Word files are cross platform compatable and people always thought the Macs were slow because web pages took so long to pull up in IE (few realised the Safari icon on the dock would solve that).
One issue was the univeristy resticting use of computers to everyone having to log in to the network. The script they had doing this on the Macs made them get stuck quite often with a barber-pole progress bar or sometimes a beach ball. And forced power off was the only way to escape. So many people I believe got the idea the macs were crash-prone. Never had any problems with them before they added that stupid security.

i'm not sure if this has been covered already, but...
other companies being able to sell DRM'd content for use with the ipod = good for apple (sells more hardware).
other companies being able to use apple's DRM'd content on their devices = bad for apple (sells more software/content).
as always, apple makes money from hardware sales, not software. the at cost/loss leading software is there to lure people to the high margin hardware. this simple point often escapes people and leads to wild and inaccurate speculation.

That sucks. Mick Karn was amazing. He also played on a Gary Numan record as well. I believe it was Dance. Also with Peter Murphy in Dali's Car.

Well, I have to use paired RAM, right? That's my only option...
The next question: Is there a difference performance-wise, between adding, say, 2 x 4GB or 4 x 2 GB? As I understand it, tri-channel only applies to the later Mac Pros...

I believe that was suppose to be yesterday, not today...
Today there are multiple sources that now claim 4.3.1 should be out in two weeks or less, and that Apple has fixed the hole in the iPad2!
So, its supprising how these 'sources', know just what hole comex used. And know that apple fixed that hole...

The Boot Camp drivers provided by Apple aren't that great, especially for the trackpad and the brightness controls. When I'm dragging and dropping files in Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro, I tend to press down with one finger and drag with another finger.
I have my trackpad set up on Windows 7 and OS X to have it so that the bottom left corner is left click and the bottom right is right click. Tap to click is disabled.

So I have now upgraded the Mac Pro with 2x X5690 and they work great. Only thing concerning me is the temperature for processor A is like 6 degrees higher when idle (B 28, A 33) and up to 12 degrees celcius higher when stress testing in Prime95 in OSX. Using iStat, it unfortunately shows only the average temp for all cores on any one CPU and not temp for each core. Is these anything available for OSX that will show all core temps?
I doubt it's a case of heatsink having poor contact with CPU due to thermal grease having gaps etc. Because the temperatures are still in the norm, it's just that CPU B is really cool. After about 15 min in Prime95 it sort of averages 63 for CPU B and 72 for CPU A and these 1366 chips can safely do 78/80 as far as I recall.
Not worth remounting you reckon ? I applied even amounts of MX-4 to both chips and covered their surface entirely.
What are the temps under stress testing?
A couple of things to note:
