Seems unfair to kill someone for robbery. Yes they're breaking the law, but only deserve a prison sentence. Do you really really think someone should be shot and killed for attempting to steal a few laptops and smash a few windows? If you do then man you have issues.
Well if there are no real consequences to carrying a gun, and shooting it at guards since I might only be facing jail time, it sounds like criminals should try more often. I just hope they don't stick iSights in all the displays.

Co-workers at my last job are stuck with PowerBooks because they can't bring a MacBook (Pro) into any area that contains classified material, and many of them have their offices in such locations. If they couldn't buy new Cinema display I'm sure they'd be even more annoyed.

To be fair, direzz is just one person, not a major corporation who pride themselves on providing peerless products with few defects. That being said, with technology, there's always a certain percentage of failure rate with new systems. Eventually they work those out, but if you're an early adopter, then you run a higher risk of being in that percentile.
Additionally direzz, you said everytime you've bought a new apple product it's had defects. Yet you still buy from them. There's got to be a point where you should just say, "screw it. I'm not buying from X corporation anymore because I get bad products every time." Vote with your money. Go buy somewhere else. I would certainly go to another manufacturer if every product I bought from a particular company was defective.
Then again, you haven't really told us what you consider defective is. Sometimes programs crash, even on a mac. Sometimes little things happen that make you say, "darnit." Then you move on because it's not that big of a deal. Then there are some things, like a MB randomly shutting down, or batteries bursting into flames that make you say, "holy crap! This thing is messed up! And this is my third mac that this has happened to!" In other words, don't sweat the little stuff. :)

I will buy a macbook soon, but I am worried after so many bad reports. And to add to that a friend bought a 17" MBP not so long ago and the workmanship really did look pretty shoddy and rushed. Sure enough, the keypad is now white and there is a nice discolored patch on her desk where the thing overheated.. how apple compares to other corporations, I don't honestly know. I like apple computers because they have been the most stable machines I've worked with and owned...maybe I had the bad luck of the draw with PC's. Anyway, any company will make a buck in whatever way possible-and will even vilify itself when it gets caught going a little too far in reducing labor costs:rolleyes: . They do it because they know they can get away with it. My friend with the pos MBP doesn't even want to complain about it. I don't think she is atypical...

Not sure why a small change in processor will suddenly make macs comparatively worse computers..Apple 'competed' with the G4 chip all these years, I can't imagine that failure to announce an update the same day as a bunch of companies that also make sub-par products is really going to make a big difference. I think the financial argument is just another way of saying:"I want a [insert computer name] with a Merom chip NOW."

File size wouldn't affect performance at all, as long as you're copying between locations on the same drive. The "file" that you see in the GUI is actually a link to a location on disk where your data is; all the OS has to move is the link, which is very tiny.

As I said, my being unsure stemmed from windows that would sometimes come up in older versions of Photoshop, when closing, that mentioned clipboard sizes being too large. All Apple have to do is take the old cube, and integrate the ease of expandability of the existing Mac Pro, add the missing fan, and some other fans inside, and we suddenly have a computer that is able to cool some seriously hot hardware, and will cause a small thermonuclear explosion if you ever put a book over its top vent.
I have decided that I think it is highly unlikely that a kentsfield will find its way into an iMac, however I hope I am mistaken. Very much hoping the Mini Mac Pro is created.

As long as you de-emphasize on productivity, you should find a Mac Mini is plenty fast enough. After all, Apple is perfect, and anything they don't offer should be wanted by you."

You want HD quality downloads but you can "stick" with DVD's? Do you understand how much information there is for a HD movie? Try one of the new disc formats, but you want to be able to download it? Crazy!
It's actually very possible to download HD content if Apple adopts a shared-bandwidth system like BitTorrent. It was rumored that they might do so. I download HD TV shows all the time - and it's fast and they're gorgeous.

Okay, so it appears that owners of 5th generation iPods (before the latest release) who update their iPod software to version 1.2 get a few cool features that come pre-loaded out of the box on the latest 5th generation iPods, but not all.
We get:
� Gapless playback
� Ability to adjust backlight brightness (I'm particularly excited about this, I've been wanting it for ages, I bet it increases battery battery life immensely with the brightness turned way down)
� When rapidly scrolling through ARTISTS we get overlayed alphabet letters which correspond to where we are on our list
� Ability to play games bought from iTunes
We don't get:
� New search function
** Video playback details yet to be determined
You also get the letters searching albums - at the moment I am finding this feature a little irritating. I love the gapless playback and the backlight control. I downloaded tetris for nostalgic reasons and it works fine.

After getting an iPhone 4 a few months ago, I've been finding myself increasingly drawn to other Apple products (what a surprise).
I currently have an HP laptop from late and although the hardware isn't really out of date, I'm really excited to switch over to a MBP 15 hopefully around Christmas, once I've saved up enough money.
I'm hoping the new MBPs will get a new design this fall, because if they don't and I buy one at Christmas, I know they'll get some major update as soon as I buy mine.
Although I can't really think of a better design, I'm sure Apple will think of something that none of us have. I agree with others that dropping the optical drive would be nice to free up space for perhaps an SSD, as I use mine maybe every few months, but I don't see Apple doing this anytime soon as the MBP is supposed to be Apple's full-featured notebook. Maybe in about 2 years, but not now.
I don't think the MBPs, already under an inch, would really benefit from getting thinner, instead I'd rather see either a bigger battery or SSD (128gb?). I have a 500gb HD right now, and only use about 150 of it, so I could probably live with a 128gb SSD alone, especially if it was included in the 15's $1800 base price.

It will, the imac will drive up to 1920 x 1200, which is what the dell 24 is.
Still, my point is that Apple isn't trying to remain competitive in regards to grabbing sales or going outside of their niche market. Apple has diehard fans that will purchase whatever they sell, no matter what. They don't need to attempt to go outside of that faction because they'll have a hard time swaying general computer users who are used to Windows already or don't want to pay the premium price.
I don't know that I'd agree with that either. The macbook and pro are pretty competitive, and the imac and mini offer some fairly reasonable machines. I'd agree that a midtower would be a great addition to their line and appeal to more untapped potential buyers, but apple is appealing to PC switchers already, as evidenced by their increasing market share and the number of consumers buying a mac for the first time. They *are* trying to remain competitive, and are succeeding in some cases, they just aren't 100% competitive in every part of the computer market.

there is no such thing as charity in america, it always comes through commerce. why not just donate the $200 bux? does a lot more than the 10 bux you are donating now, so you can justify getting a new ipod. hell i would buy a red ipod just cos of the color i don't see why the cos has to be associated with it, if they're gonna do this they might as well just donate 10% of all ipod sales. at least it does something more than haveing a "show off" recipet for your so called act of charity.

Could just be me, but I think the design is perfect. Apple is still way ahead of the competition with the unibody design. How much better can it get?
I think the design is perfect too - although Apple always seems to take a seemingly perfect design and add to it. I'm excited at the thought of a new design, mainly because I can't imagine what they could possibly improve.

So all Greenpeace did was hand out leaflets in areas other than their stand...
Heck, every trade show I ever go to has girls with their tits half hanging out wondering the halls handing out leaflets nowhere near their particular stand.
Yes, when you are a vendor at a show there are strict rules. It's in the contract. If you purchase a booth you have to stay in that booth, period. Booths are available on first come first serve basis usually with returning vendors getting the right of first refusal for booths they have held previously. The ends and large booths near foot traffic are more expensive and they command a higher price. Some shows, fewer today than before, allow for "cigarette girls" or "strollers" but the vendor pays for this as they would for any other perks�and they are not cheap. They are generally given a specific time period in which they may walk the floor (if in costume they need a chaperone). They are not allowed to transact business but hand out "freebies". According to the story Greenpeace only signed up for a booth. All contracts I have seen say you'll get thrown out if you don't obey the rules.
